Fuel starvation on the F80 M3, F82 M4, and F87 M2 Competition occurs when fuel level drops below 1/2 a tank and g-forces go up. The problem is worse on right-hand turns. The factory system simply cannot pick up any fuel to supply the main pump. Our solution adds a second main pump to the system.
The problem with the factory system is that it only has one main pump (on the right side) and then one small suction tube for the left side of the tank. In a hard right corner where the fuel sloshes to the outside the suction tube is no longer drawing in fuel and the overall fluid level is too low for the main pump to suction. As a result you get a hesitation or stumble mid-corner.
Our solution to F8X fuel starve situations is to position a second pump on the left side. The second pump is installed through the access panel for the main pump - there is no access panel on the left side. The install is straightforward and simple, however, requires a small modification to the original main pump frame (a hole) and some minor wiring. You also need the rear seat and side bolsters removed for access. Power for the new pump comes from the fuse panel under the trunk floor. Installation should be done when the fuel tank is very near empty.
Our kit has it's own piggy back fuse and relay so wont add any extra load to the standard EKP module.
